Macedonia: There is no decision about Ilovica without harmonizing the views of all stakeholders22.May 2019.
Macedonian Government spokesman, Mile Bošnjakovski, said that the decision about the Ilovica mine would not be adopted until the views of all stakeholders have been aligned.
Responding to a journalist’s question after a regular press conference of the Government, Bošnjakovski stressed that the government would not do anything to the detriment of citizens.
“The Government is in constant communication with all stakeholders, including investors and residents of the region. At the last meeting in Strumica, all the subsequent steps have been identified. Nothing will be decided about the Ilovica mine without reaching a common agreement on all sides. At this moment, we are working on this process,” Bošnjakovski said.
Citizens oppose the construction of the gold and copper mine Ilovica and ask for a licence to be revoked. Last week, they expressed their dissatisfaction over the construction of a mine with a two-hour blockade at the intersection at the entrance to Strumica from the direction of Valandovo and the Novo Selo border crossing.
