Contour Global is abandoning the construction of a thermal power plant in Kosovo

05.Apr 2020.

The 500-megawatt project was supposed to provide about half of Kosovo’s electricity needs, which has problems with electricity supply.

The decision was welcomed by groups committed to the environment protection, and the company said it would no longer invest in coal-fired electricity globally.

However, Contour Global chief executive Joseph Brant said the facility would probably not be built unless the Pristina authorities continue it as their project.

“Our engagement on that project is over,” Brant said.

The previous Pristina government has pledged to buy electricity from a new thermal power plant, but a new coalition government was set up in Kosovo last month.

“As a result of the political situation in Kosovo, our project is unable to evolve in line with the required completion date,” the Contour Global’s annual results report said.
